Mission
Our mission is to improve wellness—mind and body—by increasing access to healthy food, fostering environmental stewardship, and offering hands-on opportunities to reconnect with nature and community.

Vision
We envision a resilient East Birmingham where healthy food, restored ecosystems, and strong neighborhood connections flourish side by side.   B.E.E. will grow as a hub for urban agriculture—scaling food production, teaching regenerative practices, and collaborating with other community gardens to strengthen Birmingham’s local food network.

Goals
  • Expand local food-growing capacity
  • Restore and revitalize urban biodiversity
  • Strengthen community engagement through workshops, gatherings and skill-sharing
A brief history:

The EcoFarm was established by the Jefferson County Department of Health and Birmingham Southern as an Ecoscape in 2009. The goal for the EcoFarm was to transform a field of invasive plants to an edible landscape classroom for nearby schools and surrounding communities.  Due to financial resources, the project ended and in 2012, Birmingham Eastside EcoGardens (B.E.E) began to maintain the EcoFarm.  Working with only a few volunteers, we began to clear,  maintain and develop the established garden, and surrounding Greenway Trail overlooking Village Creek.
