BEET Cancer in the Garden
2015
Welcome to our new campaign at the Birmingham Eastside EcoGardens! Healthy food choices are directly related to our health and well-being! We grew up hearing our grandmother tell us, "you are what you eat" or "An apple a day keeps the doctor away". So many of us have lost touch with why eating good foods is important to us... yes we know we need to eat healthy and we can loose weight eating healthy, etc. But do we really understand exactly what foods do to our body?
We are working in support of the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation, in reaching out to educate about good foods, and get people into gardens growing them! This fall, we have planted some great fall foods:
beets, kale, chard, arugula, and carrots, with more to come soon.
We are also now have candles to raise money for our garden, and to donate to breast cancer research through Susan G. Komen. Thanks to the Green Bottle Candle Company for working with us to create these beautiful, locally made candles. They are made from recycled wine and sake bottles with soy wax. Please order some candles so that we may continue to support Eastlake, educate about healthy eating, and continue to grow local, organic food!
We currently have pomegranate scented (nice, fresh, sweet scent), and lemon verbena is on it's way!
